Healing doesn't mean forgetting
EMDR Therapy for Grief
Grief is love preserved. Healing doesn't mean letting go of the person you love—it means learning to carry that love with greater peace instead of overwhelming pain.
Whether you're grieving someone you've lost or the life you wish you had, your pain is real, and you don't have to face it alone. Together, we'll help you process your grief, honor what matters most to you, and find a path toward healing.
The pain of loss can feel overwhelming, leaving you wondering if life will ever feel normal again. You don't have to navigate that journey by yourself. Healing doesn't mean forgetting the person you love—it means learning to carry their memory with less pain and more peace. With compassionate support and evidence-based approaches like EMDR, you can process your loss, reconnect with life, and find hope again, one step at a time.
William W. Poynter IV, LPC
EMDR Trained for Grief
Hello, I’m William.
Losing someone you love can leave you feeling like the world keeps moving while yours has come to a stop. Some days you may feel numb. Other days, the grief can feel so overwhelming that it's hard to imagine life ever feeling different.
There is no "right" way to grieve, and there is no timeline you have to follow. Whether your loss happened recently or years ago, your grief deserves to be acknowledged with compassion—not rushed or minimized.
Sometimes the pain of a loss becomes so overwhelming that your mind and body have difficulty processing what happened. EMDR is one of the approaches I use to help you gently work through those painful memories and emotions so they no longer feel as overwhelming. Healing isn't about forgetting the person you love—it's about finding a way to carry their memory with more peace than pain.
Wherever you are in your grief, you don't have to walk through it alone.
My Specialized Approach: EDMR for Grief
Grief can be heartbreaking on its own, but sometimes it becomes even more difficult when painful memories feel frozen in time. You may find yourself replaying the moment you received the phone call, the hospital room, the funeral, or the last conversation you had with your loved one. Those memories can feel just as raw months—or even years—later.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps your brain process those painful experiences so they no longer carry the same overwhelming emotional weight. It doesn't erase your memories or your love for the person you've lost. Instead, it helps reduce the distress surrounding those memories, allowing you to remember your loved one with greater peace and less pain.
Many people also find that EMDR helps ease feelings of guilt, unresolved "what ifs," anxiety, and the sense of being emotionally stuck after a loss. As those painful memories become less overwhelming, there's often more room to reconnect with your relationships, your purpose, and the life that's still in front of you—while continuing to honor the person you'll always love.
